About the role:

The Director of Business Intelligence will be responsible for strategy resulting from the analysis of OptumRx pharmacy data, transactions, and relationships, with a view to maximizing value for Optum and its clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and collating enterprise drug procurement and prescription data along with other internal and industry data sources, and directing its analysis to turn the data into actionable insights and strategy.

This position is part of a cross functional internal team (Pharmacy Trade Relations, Finance / Accounting, Industry Relations, Optum RX Pharmacies) . Within the role, you will build relationships with our partners across many functions, including Supply Chain, Finance, Network Relations and Clinical.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drives Design, implementation and maintenance of high-quality and scalable Big Data solutions

  • Lead the analytics team in establishing a “Cloud First” approach to data and analytics work

  • Provides clear direction to achieve goals, creating an environment that fosters team commitment and employee engagement

  • Identification and curation of all relevant data with which to perform analysis (purchasing data, drug utilization, drug pipelines, etc.)

  • Use technical and analytical skills to interrogate the current business process

  • Rapidly develop new insights and iterate upon those insights to drive business decisions

  • Reviews work performed by others and provides recommendations for improvement

  • Solves complex problems and develops innovative solutions

  • Motivates and inspires other team members

  • Forecasts and plans resource requirements

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Finance, Treasury, Compliance, INR, legal and other constituents to coordinate activity and ensure ORx remains compliant, competitive, and proactive.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced SQL skills

  • Experience in a commercial role within a retail or pharmaceutical industry context

  • Experience in working with and analysing data to develop business insight and strategy

  • Proven ability to work well and collaboratively, with multiple teams or departments for business growth or profitability goals

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying complex or technical information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret complex information

  • The ability to work a portion of monthly work hours from our Dublin office is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline (finance, accounting, mathematics, engineering)

  • Experience in managed health care or pharmacy benefit management

  • Advanced degree (e.g. MBA)
