Dignity Health Medical Group is the employed physician group of Dignity Health Arizona. Dignity Health Medical Group (DHMG) employs approximately 200 providers and 500 support staff that cover a wide variety of specialties. The medical group has had tremendous success over the past few years and now provides more than 73 sub-specialty services. Responsibilities

The Genetic Counselor works as a member of a health care team providing risk assessment, education and supportive counseling to individuals and families at risk for; or diagnosed with a variety of inherited conditions. The Genetic Counselor will interpret genetic testing, support clinically-related genetics research and serve as an institute and community resource for aspects and issues related to human genetics.

  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge by providing genetic counseling, risk assessment, screening, testing, and results on patient and/or families with a personal and/or family history of cancer.

  • Coordinates the ordering, performing, and/or monitoring of genetics-related procedures and tests related to specific protocols.

  • Educates families and individuals concerned about risk factors for breast, ovarian, colorectal and other forms of cancer.

  • Explains testing protocols, potential results, risks and benefits, and psychosocial implications of the genetic evaluation/testing.

  • Discusses results with patients.

  • Provides patients with referral sources for; clinical follow-up, cancer screening and prevention consultations and participation in research protocols.

Qualifications

Minimum:

Masters degree in genetics counseling or related field required.

Board certification in genetic counseling by the American Board of Medical Genetics required.

Basic computer skills required.

Knowledge of Genetic pedigree drawing programs.

Preferred:

Two or more years experience in genetic counseling.

Pay Range

$30.55 - $44.30 /hour
