Health and Human Services Department - Social Services Division - Homeless Services Center -Deadline Extended -

Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week) - The Schedule is Sunday-Thursday, 3:00 pm-11:30 pm. In addition to a monthly two-hour staff meeting is required -

The City of Portland is seeking a Human Services Specialist for our Homeless Services Center. As a Human Services Specialist, you will be responsible for providing direct services to individuals experiencing homelessness in the Portland area.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting outreach to individuals experiencing homelessness in the community.
  • Completing necessary documentation for shelter intake and HUD related funding.
  • Assisting with check in procedures at the Homeless Services Center.
  • Providing crisis intervention services to clients in need.
  • Assisting with the operation of the Homeless Services Center: Including managing client files, maintaining accurate records, completing General Assistance Applications, and more.
  • Collaborating with community partners to ensure clients receive comprehensive services.
  • Participating in regular team meetings and trainings to ensure the provision of high-quality services.

The ideal candidate for this position will

  • Have the customer services skills needed to work with a vulnerable population-including those experiencing mental health or substance use issues.
  • They will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Will be able to work collaboratively with a diverse group of clients and community partners.
  • Experience working in a homeless shelter.
  • BA in Social Work or Equivalent is Preferred, but not required.
  • A valid Class C Drivers license is required.
